We already told you that Titusville is tucked away from the Interstates, and why we like it that way. It doesn't allow for immediate truck access to the on and off-ramps. But on the other hand, it does control our
growth and development, naturally retaining our quality of life.
Of course, if you absolutely have to live in the middle of urban sprawl, you can always take the advice of Anthony Downs of the Brookings Institute who recommends, "Get yourself an air-conditioned car with a stereo
radio, tape deck, phone, fax machine, portable computer, bar and microwave oven, and commute with someone you really like." (Neil Pierce, syndicated columnist, August 11, 1999).
And if you can't live anywhere but next to a thruway with the billboards and traffic, we'll have to refer you to one of our neighbors with such access, like Franklin Township, on I-79 just south of Erie. But if your
need for access to markets is balanced with a sane way of living, we're there.
If your supplies or products are traveling north from Pittsburgh
or south from Erie, entrance to I-79 is 26 miles away. If they are heading east and west, I-80 to the south is 34 miles, Route 17 to the north is 38 miles, and I-90 to the north is 38 miles.
It's the best of both worlds. And contrary to the recent past, the state has invested millions in our roads so that PennDOT, the PA Department of Transportation, has
ranked Northwestern PA as having the smoothest roads in the state.

DOES YOUR BUSINESS DEPEND ON DRIVE-BY TRAFFIC?
If so, we may or may not have the traffic levels you need. You can get traffic counts and estimates for
state-maintained roads from PennDOT's Engineering District 1-0 in Franklin. Bill Schwartzfager (814-437-4438, Fax: 814-437-4465) is most helpful, so be respectful of his time when you make your request.
