WHAT A HERITAGE: HOME OF THE INVENTION OF STAINLESS STEEL
Titusville Opportunity Park began its industrial life as the home of Cyclops Steel Company. Pittsburgh was the world capital of steel manufacturing, which extended throughout Western Pennsylvania. With Titusville's
wealth of oil and strong rail connections, the combination with steel manufacturing was natural.
The on-site availability of oil and gas replaced the requirement for heating with coke, and opened the doors to the creation of much new metallurgy, including the invention of non-corrosive or stainless steel and
other important alloys.

Cyclops evolved into Cytemp, which was purchased by Armco Steel. Armco developed a master plan for construction of an entire new complex on the site, and completed the infrastructure before the global economy forced
closing of the plant.
Armco Steel provided significant support to Titusville during its tenure, and continued that commitment by gifting the site to the community in December, 1998, through the management of the Titusville Redevelopment
Authority.
