John Mather, one of the most famous photographers of his time, invented the wet-plate collodion photographic process and developed unique ways of working with natural light.
His studio remains today exactly as it was left at the end of his career. With the assistance of expert photographers Mark Osterman and France Scully Osterman, currently guest scholars at George Eastman
House International Museum of Photography, we are restoring the studio to its original state and will open the Mather Museum of Photography, which you can visit year round or through this web site. You can learn
more about the wet-plate collodian process at the Scully's web site and by subscribing to The Collodian Journal,.
